Provided your charitable contribution meets the IRS' requirements, you may be able to use the gift as a tax write off. If the Fair Market Value (FMV) of a non-cash gift is greater than $5000, the IRS requires an appraisal. The appraisal must be USPAP compliant and be done by a qualified appraiser. More information can be found regarding the IRS requirements for charitable Contributions by reading the IRS Publication 561.
